Proud.

My husband graduated from his final nuclear training command today. It has been hard for us both. Hard work for him, and hard for me to deal with him working 16 hour days and crazy night schedules. I know it gets harder from here, but still. I am so proud of him. He has graduated from three nuclear training programs in 18 months and now he is finally going to a boat.

I never wanted to marry a military man. I grew up near Ft. Rucker, AL, and I saw what military life was like. I didn't want to move around so much. I didn't want my husband to be deployed or go to war. I saw the girls around town that DID want to marry an army guy, just to get out of that town. Have you seen An Officer and A Gentleman? Well, you wouldn't think it, but girls like that still exist, trying to get pregnant by an army guy so they can get married. At Ft. Rucker, they warn all the flight students about the girls around town--they call them Rucker Rats. So not only did I have no desire to be a Rucker Rat, I didn't want anyone to think I was one either. All in all I just never wanted to marry someone in the military.

Then, while I was in Belgium doing an internship, Jason informs me that he had joined the Navy. He was graduating from Auburn with a degree in Criminology, which basically meant that he either needed to go to Law School, become a cop or security guard, or join the military. Of course it took a lot for me to get used to the idea of it, but obviously I got over it. I'm lucky that he has gone so long without having to go on deployment, but he will soon. I'm worried about that. But for now, I'm just proud of my husband for all that he has accomplished.

In other news, our cable and internet will be going out any day now, as we prepare for our move. So my posting may be pretty scarce until we get settled in Virginia in a few weeks.

7 love me:

Aw. Congrats to him. My husband was in the Navy, too. Not sure if I ever told you or not. He was in the nuclear Navy as well... he was a submariner on the USS Pittsburgh. 7 years. Cute picture! Dontcha just love the summer white uniforms??

I know it's hard, but I grew up as an Army Brat and had tons of awesome experiences. And my poor mom was schlepping three kids all over creation. In a Ford LTD. ; )

And some unsolicited advice since I don't know how you're handling your new babyworld (I didn't handle infants well at all) - but find some playdates, even if your baby isn't playing yet. I craved contact with the outside world and would go to the library storytimes just to get the hell out of the house.

OK - I'll shut up now.

Mandy-yes, I love the summer uniforms!

Alice--I plan to find some playdates when we get up to VA. Especially with hubby working all the time, I don't know if I'll be able to stay sane at home for too long!

It is a difficult life, for sure. Three of my 6 siblings were in the military. It is rough. I give you and your hubby lots of credit!
Congrats to hubby! :)
